Nursing Assistant (CNA) Summary of Position:
- Accountable to Director of Nursing
- The CNA is responsible for providing nursing care as
directed by the Director of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Observation of each participant and immediately
reporting any changes in their condition to the Director of
Nursing or the nurse on duty;
- Monitoring and recording routine vital signs and
weights;
- Provision of restorative or rehabilitative nursing
services including bowel and bladder routines management and
follow through of physical, occupational and/or speech
therapies;
- Provision of direction and assistance to program aides
assisting with personal care; incontinency care and
maintenance of supplies related to same;
- Provision of prophylactic skin care to avoid breakdown;
- Provision of nail care;
- Use of infection control/prevention techniques in the
rendering of care;
- Direct daily meal service to insure participant’s
receive meals prescribed by their attending physician;
- Report inadequacies in dietary or fluid intake to the
Director of Nursing;
- Assist in the provision of emergency care;
- Check pt. Clothing, incontinency and personal care
supplies and obtain same to insure adequacy of amounts on
hand.
- Call physician offices to schedule appointments.
- File documents in participant medical records.
- Call in or fax prescriptions to pharmacy for renewals.
- Assist consulting physicians with treating participants.
Qualifications:
- General – Certified by a New Jersey licensed physician
within 45 days of employment to be in good health including
freedom from communicable disease, including Tuberculosis in
the communicable form, according to acceptable screening
methods of the Dept. of HRS.
- Education / Experience – Must be a New Jersey certified
nursing assistant with at least one year of experience in
geriatric care in an acute, long term or home care setting.
- Abilities – In addition to the responsibilities detailed
in this job description, the Certified Nursing Assistant
must be able to:
- Supervise the program aide assisting with nursing
care;
- Understand the needs of the elderly and, in
particular, the needs of those affected by cognitive
impairments;
- Be sensitive to the needs of family caregivers;
- Be available to work unscheduled days and hours;
- Make a commitment to cooperative performance to
attain care, organization and programmatic objectives
which may entail performing duties not included in this
job description.
